A Scene from "Eighteen"

"Dirt" Worth Digging by Danielle Riendeau, Contributing Writer (afterellen.com) writes:

Gay viewers will want to watch for the interesting, multifaceted queer characters, especially Garbo (Carly Pope). Garbo is a hip young drug dealer who keeps the youth of Hollywood properly supplied, and she also happens to be a lesbian. Though she is not introduced until Episode 3, she is a major player in the Dirt universe. A complicated relationship between Garbo and Julie (Holt’s girlfriend) is strongly hinted at, and promises to become a major story line in future episodes. In fact, while secrecy and discretion are at the heart of Garbo’s character, her sexuality is out in the open. While she must keep a low profile as a successful dealer to the stars, she has no problem letting Willa, who is doing some undercover reporting, know how she feels about a certain female singer. Like Lucy, she’s confident, sexy and fun to watch. The fact that the sole lesbian character, so far, is a drug dealer is not problematic because of the context of the show — no one is an innocent or moral “white hat” on Dirt. Lucy ruins lives by printing tabloid pictures of all the addicts, cheaters and liars in town, and Garbo is simply no better or worse than any of the other characters.

Dec.08.06 Carly has landed a role on FX's newest Original series created by Courtney Cox called "DIRT". Carly's character Garbo a (gay drug dealer) is introduced in the third episode, and appears in several episodes after that. According to afterellen.com's Sarah Warn, she says: "I haven't seen a screener of the series yet, so I can't comment on her performance myself, but according to our sources, Pope is "amazing" as Garbo, and "born to play this role". I'm definitely digging her name, no doubt a reference to legendary actress Greta Garbo, who was long rumored to play for both teams."

    - In a recent TV Guide interview with Leslie Bibb, she was asked

TVGuide.com: Do you keep in touch with anyone from Popular?
Bibb: Carly Pope and I are really good friends.
TVGuide.com: You girls meet for Starbucks every day?
Bibb: Well, seeing that she lives in Canada, that'd be a little difficult! [Laughs] But we stay in touch. I just got an e-mail from her saying that she's in town, so I'll probably be getting together with her — probably not at Starbucks, but maybe at Aroma?
TVGuide.com: She actually went in for the role of Brooke, which you wound up getting, right?
Bibb: This is true. We both were auditioning for Brooke, and as soon as we left, they ran out and gave her the sides for Sam — which is always terrible for the other girls, the others reading for Sam. They're like, "S---!"

"10.5: Apocalypse," the sequel to NBC's successful 2004 disaster miniseries, began last week in Montreal, with Kim Delaney, Beau Bridges and David Cubitt reprising their roles and the same behind-the-camera team in place as well. There's no official word on an airdate yet, but given the start date, "Apocalypse" could possibly be ready to go by November sweeps.

"We are shooting this sequel on digital, which is allowing us to achieve a whole new level of visual effects and style that have heretofore not been seen on network television," writer-director John Lafia says. "Also, the actors flocking to the project is very rewarding to me personally and shows their faith in the material."

In addition to the three returning cast members, "10.5: Apocalypse" will also feature Frank Langella ("Unscripted," "Superman Returns"), Carlos Bernard ("24"), Carly Pope ("Popular"), Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon ("Eyes"), Dean Cain ("The Perfect Husband"), Melissa Sue Anderson ("Little House on the Prairie," "Earthquake in New York") and Barbara Eve Harris ("ER," "36 Hours to Die").

The sequel will pick up following the events of the first miniseries, where a series of massive earthquakes laid ruin to much of the West Coast. When seismic activity resumes, the president (Bridges) again calls on maverick seismologist Samantha Hill (Delaney) to assess the threat.
She comes up with a theory based on a long-discredited hypothesis of her father's (Langella) which, if true, could wreak even more havoc. The original "10.5," which aired in May 2004, was a hit for NBC, averaging better than 20 million viewers over its two nights. Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe and Gary Pearl, who executive produced the miniseries, are serving in the same capacity for the sequel.
