A day in the life: Ever since carly pope got "popular, " she's barely
had enough time to take a catnap. Follow her around for a day to find out
what keeps her from catching more zzzzs.
17 hours with Carly Pope:
7:30 a.m.-
THE ALARM GOES OFF.
I hit the snooze bar.
THE ALARM AGAIN.
Snooze bar again.
8:00 a.m.- I decide i just can't afford to hit the snooze bar
one more time so I get up and get dressed. Im a breakfast person-I usually
have a big breakfast, like pancakes with fruit-but today all I have time
for is strawberries and green tea, which I add honey and lemon to. I can
only take a few sips before im out the door.
8:20 a.m.- I drive past one of my favorite haunts, Starbucks on
Sunset Blvd, but decide not to go in for two reasons: One, im in a rush,
and two, im trying to avoid caffine (green tea has very little). Drinking
coffee was becomming such a routine that I thought it might be a good idea
to cut back. I've limited myself to one coffee drink (usually an expresso)
a week.
8:30 a.m.- I drive on the studio lot, park my car, get to the
"popular" set and go straight into hair and makeup. They allocate an hour
and a half for both, but it usually takes me just under an hour because I
come in with dry hair from having washed it the night before. Im familiar
with my lines, but I have to look over the script again to make sure i've
got everything down.
9:42 a.m.- Today we're filming a courtroom scene. The school is
putting on a mock trial. Because this is our thrid day of filming, we call
it "courtroom hell." Everything takes hours, its really a grind. Delirium
has kicked in- our saving grace!
2:10 p.m.- Break for lunch. I have the usual- tuna, rice, some
sesame seeds and a "female toner" tea, which helps me maintain proper
balance. I like all kinds of traditional medicinal teas, and I recommend
them; they've got something for every female "occasion."
2:30 p.m.- I still have about a half hour left on my break so I
take a 20 minute nap in my trailer. When I wake up I pick up my new
indulgence, Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice. Though i've already
seen the movie, im finding the book extremely fullfilling.
3:10 p.m.- Back to the set for four more hours of our mock court
session.
7:20 p.m.- We don't break for dinner because we have Craft
services and we can get something to eat whenever we want. I'll usually
make myself a peanut butter sandwich (an energy kick) and of course there
are jelly beans, which I have no control over- I just have to be careful
of the sugar crash (not a good way to work).
9:20 p.m.- Im not needed on the set for the next 20 minutes so I
go back to my trailer. I'd be nice if I could just leave the set to go for
a drive or just walk around, but things change so quickly and then you
have to worry about being back on time. Luckily, my friend Jade and her
brother Benny drop by to say hello.
12:31 a.m.- We finish shooting just after midnight, which is
actually an early night for us- sometimes we shoot until 2 a.m. Im tired
when I drive home. After I get ready for bed- It takes forever to get the
make up off- I take some vitamin C and go over my lines for the next day.
Before I turn off the lights, I sneak in a few more pages of Interview
With the Vampire. One more day complete!
thanx to david bligh for finding it and
typing it up for cp.com!
